WCK

WCK-One of Dominica's hottest bands.They started back in 1988 and recorded their first album,'Mopsy-One More Sway' in 1989. Since then, every year they have recoded songs making it bigger and bigger every time around. Their name 'WCK' came from the first names of the original members, "W"-Wayne McLawrence who played lead guitar, ("C")from Cornell Phillip and "K"-Keith Goddard on Bass. Derick 'Rah' Peters played drums and is still the lead vocalist, Cornell Phillip plays Keyboards and rhythm programming. Irvine Phillip plays keyboards and background vocals. The four man strong performing group based in the capital of the island, Roseau, has definitely earned its place at the top of the ranks of dance music entertainment due to its unique blend of the island's traditional music and dance - namely Belle, Quadrill, Jing Ping, Mazouk, and Kadance.

The end result? A music which they call Bouyon (Boo-Your). CK, for short, has managed to bring back the traditional sounds of Dominica through the use of up-to-date musical instruments thus enhancing and revitalising this once dormant sound. WCK recorded two more albums,'Culture Shock' in 1990 and 'Follow the Leader' in 1991, before Wayne left the group.From 1992 to 1998 they have recorded eight more albums including the latest CD released after CARNIVAL 1999 called "SET MY PEOPLE FREE".

When other members joined the band the meaning could no longer stand so they decided to give it the meaning of Windward Caribbean Kulture which still stands for W.C.K. The band released its first recording album in 1989 and .

In 1998 they released a Compact Disc, called "Marathon", featuring exhilarating music like 'Pwese Poutan', 'Criminal' and 'Riddim'. Cornell has also backed up several singers including 'de Hunter', on his CDs. The band has been touring recently, the US and the UK and is growing more popular.
