The Hours
Three
eras, three stories, and three women coalesce
into a continuum that flows through the heart
of The
Hours, starring Meryl Streep, Julianne
Moore, and Nicole Kidman. Based on Michael Cunningham's
Pulitzer Prize-winning novel and directed by Academy
Award® nominee
Stephen Daldry, this powerful drama has already
garnered seven Golden Globe nominations, including
Best Picture (Drama). Virginia Woolf (Kidman)
is working on her novel Mrs. Dalloway in
1920s London--and battling insanity. Laura Brown
(Moore), a housewife in post-World War II Los
Angeles, is reading Mrs. Dalloway and finding
it so powerful she contemplates making a devastating
change in her life. And Clarissa Vaughn (Streep),
a contemporary version of Woolf's Mrs. Dalloway,
lives in New York City--and is in love with her
friend Richard (Ed Harris), a brilliant poet dying
of AIDS. The stories of these three women blend
together and finally unite in a surprising, transcendent
moment of shared recognition. Now playing in select
cities, The Hours also opens nationwide
on Friday, January 17.
