The name came during a braining activity, when bass guitarist Adrien Mitchel suggested, Serenade.” However band CEO Carlton Winston thought Serenade seemed rather lonely and added the word First to compliment it.
A legend in its own right, the band officially began operation in1984 in the village of Point Michel, where most of its members were from.
First Serenade began performing for the village calypso shows and other public and private occasions. Then came a different band of music.
This was a consequence of a proposal made by the village priest, Fr. Reginald La fleur at the time.CEO Carlton Winston eluded that, he told us play in church on a Saturday for the youth mass and I will give you instruments, and we did.
The first piece of instrument the band received was a bass guitar and then came a bass clarinet, drum set and small odds and ends.
The versatility and originality of its music has satisfied many fans in Dominica and the world by extension, with variety of types of music including Zouk, Soca, Calypso, Bouyon, and Soukous music, which can be heard on its various albums.
The group has been in existence for approximately Thirty (30) years. The band has now been renowned as one of Dominica’s top and most versatile band, and is also known for its master live jams.
The band’s first album was launched in 1988 for Reunion 88 with the song Zouke Zouke.
That song, band members stated proudly, was a gigantic hit and was well received by the Dominican public.
The Band seeks to promote Dominica’s Music and Culture, enabling in the erosion of Cultural Music barriers. The Band also wants to play a part in Caribbean music integration. Music, like an intangible life source of satisfaction, has kept the spirit of the group alive through its musical journey.
